Cabin summary

Mlima, meaning “mountain” in Swahili, is an elevated A-frame cabin designed for both beauty and resilience, drawing inspiration from the white fir trees that populate the Western U.S. mountains. Guests climb to the cabin, enjoying layered views along the way, before reaching a sanctuary that blends structural strength with serene comfort. Its heavy timber frame, angled supports, and sharp triangular form withstand snow, wind, and heat, while expansive windows offer panoramic forest views.

Hanging chairs, hammocks, and a lower deck encourage outdoor living, and inside, a full kitchen, luxurious bath, and educational materials on logging history and native trees invite learning and rest. Reminiscent of the tall, silver-green white fir—known for its symbolism of strength and its role in Indigenous healing—Mlima is a place to hibernate in winter, reflect year-round, and live gently among the trees.

Cabin description

The hilltop house nestles into the steep hill and the spacious terrace soars out towards it’s very own view over the hills and beyond.  From inside and out you can enjoy the presence of an enormous 300 year old chestnut tree which is registered as a “remarkable tree of France”.  Watch the birds settle in it’s branches and in October you can help yourselves to kilos of huge, tasty chestnuts.

Very comfortable in all seasons, secluded and self sufficient it feels like a new home from home. Perched on the edge of a vast natural meadow next to the forest, the hilltop house has it’s own space within the 10 hectares of nature reserve that surround it.

Visitors can experience living with the varied and abundant wildlife all around; a rich variety of flora and fauna with many species of birds and insects (including praying mantis), soaring buzzards and hawks, wild boar, deer, badgers, foxes and more.  An amazing space for birdwatching, star gazing, walking and nature watching.
