What Is It?

The honeybee is a small flying insect that lives in hives, makes honey, and pollinates plants—which means it helps plants grow fruits and vegetables.

Where Does It Live?

Almost everywhere! Honeybees live in man-made hives, wild tree hollows, and backyard boxes. They’re found all over North America and around the world.

What Does It Do?

Bees fly from flower to flower, collecting nectar and spreading pollen as they go. This helps plants grow and make seeds. Without bees, we’d have a lot less food—no joke.

What’s the Problem?

Pesticides, diseases, and habitat loss
are killing them off.

Bees are disappearing in some areas
(colony collapse disorder).

Fewer bees = fewer crops = hungry people.
